The house is constructed of brick laid in four course American bond. The South facade is symmetrical, with tall paired 4/6 windings flanking the recessed central entrance. The entrance retains its original bracketed entablature supported on flat pilasters. Similar brackets decorate the boxed roof cornice. A shallow cross gable define the central bay. The second floor windows, slightly smaller than those below, are also paired, utilizing 4/4 sash, simple wooden sills, and slightly splayed brick lintels. Windows on in the east and west ends of the building, two per floor, are 6/6 sash withe splayed brick lintels. The Hocking House was built in 1855 on a tract of land known as "The Hotel". The land was part the estate of Robert Clarke, Sr., one of the original settlers of the area that is now Frostburg.
